breadcrumbs ACADEMICS & DEGREE PROGRAMS > LIBRARY > MINIS ROOM > SAVANNAH BIOGRAPHIES – although MINIS ROOM is under special collections.

The Savannah Biographies is a collection of unedited biographies written by history students of Armstrong Atlantic State University (Savannah, Georgia) for Dr. Roger K. Warlick’s Historical Methods course (History 450/650; old History 300/500). The papers were written between 1975 and the spring term of 1994.

Some Savannah Mayors  – NEW PAGE CREATED are included in this project, all of their biographies have been digitized.

Dr. Warlick’s original introduction to The Savannah Biographies:

These volumes contain biographies of 19th and 20th century Savannahians written by history students of Armstrong State College. These biographies are of ordinary people from all walks of life who in some small way contributed to the history of the city of Savannah. They were prepared in partial fulfillment of requirements for Historical Methods Course 300/500 taught by Dr. Roger K. Warlick, head of the History and Political Science Department.

No attempt was made to edit these papers in any way and they are presented here exactly as submitted by the authors. Some enclosures, primarily bulky documents, were missing from the original papers and therefore are not contained herein.

It is the hope of the compiler that this collection of biographies not only will provide some pleasure to the casual reader, but also will prove to be of some value to the future researcher.

The index to The Savannah Biographies is arranged alphabetically by the subject’s name. The author is the student-biographer, the date is the term (Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall) when the biography was written and volume refers to the number of the volume that contains the biography. The papers are bound into 25 volumes and housed in the Florence Powell Minis Room of Lane Library (LINKS TO LANE HOMEPAGE. WHERE BEST TO GO?) (Spe Coll F 294 S2 S38.) Copies of the biographies were also given to the Georgia Historical Society. (LINKS OFFSITE)

Lane Library digitizes selected biographies from the Savannah Biographies, after seeking the student-biographer’s permission form. Rob Jones and Kathryn McGowan digitized most of the biographies on this site and those biographies are in pdf format.

If you are a student who wrote one of the Savannah Biographies we would like to have your permission to digitized the biography you wrote, please complete this permission form and mail it, or copy it into an e-mail to:
