Library Resource Updates for October!
The Georgia Southern University Libraries are excited to announce the following updates to our collections:
Hoover’s Online Is Now Mergent Intellect
Mergent Intellect is replacing Hoover’s Online, which will be discontinued by the publisher on December 31, 2018. On this date, all links to Hoover’s Online will be removed from the Libraries’ websites. Please begin using Mergent Intellect now.
Mergent Intellect includes worldwide business information and company profiles. Mergent Intellect is available via the Libraries’ A-Z Database List, GIL-Find (Library Catalog), and Discover @ Georgia Southern.
Physical Education Index Is Now Available
As part of the recent consolidation of Georgia Southern and Armstrong State Universities, Physical Education Index is now available via the Libraries’ A-Z Database List, GIL-Find (Library Catalog), and Discover @ Georgia Southern.
Physical Education Index provides specialized, editorially curated A&I resources critical to researchers with an academic, professional or personal interest in the field of physical education. Through scholarly and trade literature, the database covers a wide range of topics, ranging from physical and health education to fitness and recreation and the business of sports, as well as kinesiology, physical therapy, motor learning, and sport sociology and psychology. Kanopy Streaming Videos Are Now Available via the Library Catalog and Discover @ Georgia Southern
The Libraries’ collection of 19,000+ Kanopy streaming videos is now available via GIL-Find (Library Catalog) and Discover @ Georgia Southern.
Kanopy, a video streaming database, provides access to collections of films across the world including full-length films, documentaries, training videos, and many others. Film collections cover Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Sciences, and the Humanities. Kanopy is available via the Libraries’ A-Z Database List, GIL-Find (Library Catalog), and Discover @ Georgia Southern.
Project Muse Has a New and Improved Website
Project Muse has a newly redesigned website! With a scholar-informed design and enhanced infrastructure, the new website offers a more robust user experience, including:
- Content footnotes and references shown “in-line” with the associated text in articles and chapters
- New search facets for book series and thematic journal issues
- Responsive design to meet a variety of mobile and desktop options
- Personalized “My MUSE” accounts to customize the research process
With a MyMUSE account, users may build a personal library of relevant MUSE content, generate citations for or search within the items in their library, save/view searches, and set up alerts for favorite journals, publishers, and subjects in MUSE.
Project Muse is a full-text database of scholarly journals covering: literature, history, art, political science, economics, math, and other fields in the arts and sciences. The University Libraries subscribe to the Standard Collection. Project Muse is available via the Libraries’ A-Z Database List, GIL-Find (Library Catalog), and Discover @ Georgia Southern.
Discover @ Georgia Southern: New Feature – Hyperlinked Databases
Discover @ Georgia Southern now includes hyperlinks to databases within your search results. For a result, click on the database title to navigate to the database from which it comes. Supported databases include most EBSCOhost databases, ERIC, JSTOR, PubMed, and others.
Ebook Central: New Features
Ebook Central now includes enhanced features for readers, including:
- You May Also Like: On-the-spot recommendations
- Reader reviews: More than 1.5 million vetted reader reviews from LibraryThing
- About the Author:Additional author information, including photograph and biography
- Awards: Honors a book has received; also helps patrons find other highly awarded titles in their library’s collection
- Tags:An easy way to explore related content tagged with genres, subjects and other categories
Ebook Central, formerly ebrary, offers authoritative ebooks in a wide range of subject areas. Most ebooks can be downloaded and read offline on your computer or mobile device. Ebook Central is available via the Libraries’ A-Z Database List, GIL-Find (Library Catalog), and Discover @ Georgia Southern.
