SUBJECT: Software
COMMENT: Need to install software for people with majors having to do with Science and Tech. I have went to the library twice and the software is not installed and the labs in the science and tech building are only open limited hour. Its very disheartening when we pay such high tuitions and our "state of the art" IT system does not have all of the software that many students need.
RESPONSE:
Thank you for your comments. The head of the Systems Department replied as follows:
We work each year with the teaching faculty to obtain and install the software that they say we need to support their students. Not all of them provide us the information.
Because of the large number of software programs used in the various labs across campus, we can't have all of them installed in the Library. The amount of programs on each computer would be too large to manage and keeping them all updated would put too large a load on the computer network. Also some programs were purchased for a limited number of users or for use in only one building. We are not allowed to install software on more computers than the license allows.
Is there a particular program that your are interested in? You can have your professors either submit a Software Installation Request or contact me directly at dlowder@georgiasouthern.edu and we will work with them to see if it's possible.
