SUBJECT: Browsing Books

My understanding is that, as part of the construction currently taking place, the library is going to implement an automated book retrieval system. If/When this system is put into place, will there still be browsing sections of the library with the more classic \"stacks,\" or will all books be stored in the automated system?

RESPONSE:
Thank you for your question. The newest and most heavily used books and periodicals will be out on open stacks on second and third floors of the addition as construction continues in phase two. When expansion and renovation is completed, there will be stacks on all floors with the majority of shelving on first, third and fourth floors.

The materials placed in the automated system during phase two are those used less often than those on open stacks. When the building is complete, the least used materials will be moved from their off-campus temporary location to the automated system.

Please let us know if you have other questions.
