One of the major issues in the faceoff between Pittman and Talmadge
was the presence of books in the Georgia Teachers College Library which
Talmadge alleged contained Communist influences. "Among the most
contested volumes was a book entitled Calling America: The Challenge To
America. The volumes, three in total, were purchased and donated for
