These are photographs taken by Kenneth Rogers for a July 1941 issue of
the Atlanta Constitution. They are images of the Board of Regents
hearing held on Monday, July 14, 1941. At this meeting, Marvin Pittman
and Walter Cocking were fired. The larger photograph on the left is of attorney Hatton Lovejoy pleading for justice from the Regents for Pittman and Cocking. Top right shows Governor Eugene Talmadge shaking his fist at Chairman Sandy Beaver; bottom right shows Mrs. Talmadge watching it all. These images were scanned from a framed newspaper page given to Henderson Library Special Collections by Mrs. Evelyn Baggett Clemens, along with a collection of letters written by alumni in support of Dr. Pittman. |
