(alphabetical markers in notebook)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. These were in an expanding file which was organized alphabetically. Although I could see no obvious method of organization, I put the clippings and releases filed together in a paper clip, with a piece of paper giving the letter they were filed under.
2. These were in an envelope marked "Edwards Clippings."
3. In the original suit, the defendant's name is given as "Oliver Beall;" in the appeal, it is "Oliver Bell."
4. The charge of burglary is handwritten on the original complaint, and the charge of murder has been crossed out.
5. Moore was involved with this case because it originated in Washington County. This file contains correspondence between Moore, the attorney who represented Georgia in the Supreme Court, and the Clerk of the U. S. Supreme Court.
6. In the original case, the defendant's name is given as "Ottis M. Lanier." In the appeal, it is given as "Otis Lanier."
7. Note: This defendant is named as "Joe Holloway" in some documents.
8. Note: This file holds two cases. R. S. Edwards was convicted of murdering Griner's husband. After the conviction, she sued him for damages.
9. This case is very confusing. It involves
several defendants tried jointly and separately for one crime. The
materials are mostly notes, jury lists, and individual pleadings in
Screven County Superior Court. The only things I can say for certain are
that the trials took place in Screven County, and the charges appear to
have been murder and accessory after the fact to murder. Moore
represented the state in these cases, and on one sheet of notes, I found
these trial headings listed.
