The seal of South Carolina had been in use for less than two years at the time. This side shows Hope (Spes) walking over swords and daggers as she holds a laurel branch. This certificate came to Special Collections as part of the papers of Helen Williams Coxon, the first woman to serve in both houses of the Georgia legislature. |
