Skip to Visiting Henderson Library | Reserves/E-Reserves | Reference and Consulting Services Distance Learning students may qualify for the library's Document Delivery service. To qualify for this service, the student must meet all these criteria:
Students meeting all of the above criteria may request Henderson Library materials - circulating books and photocopies of articles - to be mailed directly to them. To request this service, fill out the appropriate Document Delivery form, available here . Please note that it doesn't matter whether or not Henderson Library owns what you want - fill out the appropriate Document Delivery form and the material will be sent from the Henderson Library collection if owned, or it will be requested from another library. There is also a paper Document Delivery form you can use if you don't have access to the library's web page. You can get these from your instructor, or you may call the Henderson Library's Distance Learning Document Delivery person (912) 478-5405 to request copies of the form be mailed or faxed to you. There is no limit on the number of items you may order. Postage-paid return labels are included with any books sent to you for their return. Henderson Library doesn't charge for this service, but if you lose or damage materials, you will be charged for their replacement. Your requests are printed out daily by the Library's ILL/Document Delivery Office, and processed within 2 days. You will receive materials owned by Henderson Library in a few days. Items that need to be requested from other libraries will take longer to get to you - sometimes books can take 3 weeks or more. Be sure to indicate in the appropriate field on the request when you can no longer use the material. If you are a currently enrolled Georgia Southern student but don't qualify for the Document Delivery service, you will still be able to use the Interlibrary Loan service to request materials not owned by Henderson Library. The forms are on the same page as the Document Delivery forms - just read and select the appropriate form. Articles will be mailed to the address you supply. You will be notified when borrowed materials arrive and you will pick them up at Henderson Library. | return to top | Visiting Henderson Library As a student registered in a Georgia Southern University class, you are of course welcomed to use the Henderson Library. We have the most extensive service hours and the University System of Georgia. At the beginning of your visit to our library, you may find it helpful to stop by the Reference and Information Services Desk (opposite the main entrance) for a quick orientation. Librarians there can help you in locating databases and other reference resources appropriate to your research. To see our service hours and schedules, please see the library's schedule and calendar for more information. To get an e-mail account , visit Information Technology Services in the Administration Building , or complete the off-campus application for student accounts form. Computer Services may be contacted at (912) 478-5429. | return to top | Reserves/E-Reserves Georgia Southern faculty may place books and articles on reserve, either in traditional paper form at the Henderson Library or other area libraries in our region, or on electronic reserve. When placing an item on e-reserve, the Library staff will scan the material, then link it to the Library's catalog. Electronic Reserves are particularly beneficial to Distance Learning students, since they can be accessed from anywhere. For more information on reserves/e-reserves, go to http://library.georgiasouthern.edu/library/reserves/ or contact Fred Smith at (912) 478-5647 or fsmith@georgiasouthern.edu or Peggy Miley (912) 478-5482 or pmiley@georgiasouthern.edu. | return to top | Reference and Consultation Services Research consultation sessions are available to faulty. Appointments may be arranged by contacting a subject liaison librarian, or contact LiLi Li at (912) 478-7960 or lilili@georgiasouthern.edu . Subject-specialist librarians are available to work with faculty to develop Class Specific Guides, which can be web-mounted for remote access. Such guides are intended as a starting point for a student's research and might include reference resources, article indexes, databases, suggested book titles, and related web sites. A list of subject specialists and contact information is available at the Guide to Librarians in Information Services page, http://library.georgiasouthern.edu/libref/ISLibrarians.pdf . Faculty teaching off-campus courses are encouraged to appraise the Library of specific resources which support their off-campus classes, for consideration for purchase. | return to top | Bibliographic Instruction The Information Services Librarians will design course-related instruction tailored for specific classes. When appropriate lab, library or classroom facilities are available, instruction can be delivered at these sites. On occasion, distance learning students inquire about coming to Henderson Library for an instructional session. Small group sessions or sessions for an entire class can be arranged. To request an instructional session for an off-campus class, contact LiLi Li at (912) 478-7960 or email lilili@georgiasouthern.edu . Patrons are not required to have a Georgia Southern ID to use this service, but they will be asked for a picture ID. The checkout period is 28 days and renewals are allowed, either in person or online. There are no fines for overdue materials, although some participating institutions do have a fine for failing to return an item which has been recalled. However, if patrons allow any items to become overdue, they will lose all circulation and reserve privileges at all University System libraries, including their home libraries. Materials checked out by GIL Express may be returned to any other University System library.
