All multi-part videos,
CDs, and cassettes that circulate individually should be assigned lower
case
letters of the alphabet (a-i, k, m-z) for enumeration.
The letters J and L should remain upper case so that they are
more
easily discernable on the material. This designation should appear on
the
material, in the 866 field of the holdings record and in the
enumeration
box of the item record.
Multi-part videos,
CDs and cassettes that are packaged as a whole and circulate as a whole
will not be assigned enumeration. These multi-part units will have a
summary
list of the items in the box, but no indication of separate enumeration
online or on the individual item labels.
Some videos, CDs or other AV items may have
multiple parts that are not barcoded. This may include guides or
paperback supplements. The individual updating the printout for these
items will print a copy
of the Holdings record and list the unbarcoded parts on the bottom of
that
printout. Processing will use this information to list these unbarcoded
accompanying materials on a label placed near the barcode. The main
cataloged
item should be listed first. For example:
1 video
1 guide
Electronic books will automatically be added to our
catalog as we gain
access to them. The latest records were loaded from NetLibrary. We bear
no responsibility for maintaining the Bibliographic , Holding, or Item
records
for these items. Each electronic book has a separate bibliographic
record
even if we own an identical print copy of the item.
Titles with online and print
subscriptions
Titles for which we carry online and print subscriptions will be
cataloged using the bibliographic record for the print version.
This single bibliographic record will have two MFHDs. One of the
MFHDs displayed in the OPAC will be for the online access to the title.
The other MFHD displayed in the OPAC will be for the print version of
the
title.
The print version of the title will be cataloged by the individual
responsible for cataloging the type of material (serial, monograph,
etc.). The Holding and Item records for the print version will also be
entered following the usual procedures.
The Catalog Librarian responsible for cataloging Serials will add the
electronic holdings information in a separate MFHD attached to the
bibliographic record.
IF the print title ceases to be updated, then the most current
electronic holdings will be entered using a separate bibliographic
record. Any decision to replace these records will be made following
the usual serials management procedures.
