020-049 fields
020’s (ISBN)
ISBN numbers may be added to a bibliographic record IF:
- The ISBN in the 020 is incorrect, AND
- All information on the record other than the ISBN matches the
book, AND
- There is no other bibliographic record in OCLC that matches.
There is no need to delete the original ISBN, just add the correct one.
035 (System Control Number)
The 035, ‡a should only contain one of the following:
- OCLC number (letter/number combination)
- GPO number (letter/number combination)
- Local Voyager number preceded by (GPM)
Delete all 035 fields that have any other information in the 035,
subfield a.
The 035, ‡9 may contain other system control numbers than those listed
above. Our records will most commonly place the DRA number in the 035
‡9.
037 (Source of Acquisition)
Do not retain for monographs
042 (Authentication code)
Do not retain for monographs
049 (Local holdings)
Prefixes in the 049 field of a bibliographic record should reflect
information for the location of the circulating copy of the title
cataloged. When selecting an 049 field prefix for a title with multiple
copies in multiple locations, assign a single prefix based on the most
accessible circulating copy.
Please use the following guidelines for data entry:
Stacks material- no prefix required
AV material- [CASSETTE], [CD], [VIDEO], [DVD], etc. as appropriate
Browsing material- no prefix required unless oversize
Lorimer Reading Room material- [LORIMER], [LORIMER][OVERSIZE]
MAA material- [MAA]
Oversize material- [OVERSIZE]
Reference material- [REF]
Special Collections material- [SPEC][COLL]
When the Catalog Librarian reviewed some of our documentation for
Voyager testing, he noticed that there was a practice of placing a
space between
prefixes and GPMM in the 049 field. He says that the standard way of
entering
this data is without a space.
Examples: [REF]GPMM
[OVERSIZE]GPMM
[MAA]GPMM
