Problem Summary
Voyager has duplicates for many microfiche shipping list full bibliographic
records and temps. Print and microfiche temps for the same title appear.
Monographic print records are present for titles that are microfiche holdings
only.
Solution
Consolidate as many records as possible. Re-link MFHDs and/or Item
records to the appropriate records.
Logging on and searching for records:
- Open your Internet browser and go to http://connexion.oclc.org/
- Type in the Authorization
- Type in the Password
- Press Enter or Click the Logon button on the screen
- Click Search at the upper left corner of the screen
- Enter the search in the Command Line Search box at the top of the
screen
- Type gn: and the SuDoc number in the box, no punctuation
and no spaces
- Click on Search below this section or press Enter
If the SuDoc search doesn’t work, then Click on Browse at the top of
the screen and enter your title search in the box.
Selecting Records
Search OCLC Connexion Web version for one of the following (Listed in
order of preference):
- A serial record for the title (choose the paper record if we have
holdings in multiple formats)
- A multiple-volume monographic record for the title
- A single volume monographic record for the title
Exporting Single Bibliographic Records from Connexion
With the desired record displayed, select Export Record in MARC
- Click OK when you see Downloading Mexport
- Select your Import file(example: C:Oclcapps/Passport/Marc Records).
This would be the file that you normally use for importing into Voyager
- Rename the File before saving
- Click on Save
Importing the Bibliographic Records to Voyager
After logging on to Voyager in the Cataloging happening location:
- Select Record/Import/From new file
- Open the bibliographic record
- Edit the 049, 074, 500, and other fields as you would for cataloging
new shipping list titles
- Save the bibliographic record to the database
- Create New Holdings and save to the database
Resolving the Temps
- Write down the new MFHD's Voyager id number
- Search the MFHD call number from the new bibliographic record in
Voyager for all items to be included on the new holding record
- Retrieve the Bibliographic, MFHD, and Item records for the Temp
or Full Bibs to be replaced
- Re-link the Item record to the new MFHD (it may be necessary to enter
Enumeration on the item record)
- Delete the temp MFHD and bibliographic record
- Count as one title cataloged (monographic or serial as applies)
- Return to the list of titles and repeat the re-linking process for
each title included on the new bibliographic record
