About C.O.R.A.L. Law

The Coalition of Regional and Academic Libraries (CORAL) Law website is supported in part by federal LSTA funds administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Office of Public Library Services, a unit of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Coalition members are the Statesboro Regional Library, the Small Business Administration, and the Zach S. Henderson Library of Georgia Southern University.

Disclaimer

This site provides weblinks to information about the law designed to help users with their own legal needs. But legal information is not the same as legal advice -- the application of law to an individual's specific circumstances. Although our aim is to provide links to information that is accurate and useful, we recommend you consult a lawyer if you want professional assurance that any information you find here, and your interpretation of it, is appropriate to your particular situation.

Criteria for Selecion of Web Sites Added to the C.O.R.A.L. Law Web Page

Standard criteria for evaluating information on the Web are readily available and information on this will be found on the C.O.R.A.L. Law web site as well. All information found via the Web should be evaluated in regard to its authority, accuracy, purpose, scope, and currency. Health information, however, requires more careful evaluation than these basic criteria. Below are some more specific criteria for evaluating the C.O.R.A.L. Law web links:

  1. The content of the site should be written primarily for consumers rather than health care professionals.
  2. Sites with an editorial board which is responsible for the content are selected over those without one or those which appear to lack any form of peer-review of the content.
  3. The purpose of the site must be clearly stated, including the intended audience.
  4. The scope of any medical web site is limited and will not include all information to the user, therefore, a clear and concise disclaimer must be prominent on the page.
  5. Updating of the page must be frequent and the last update time clearly indicated.
  6. Information provided must have a name(s), credentials, and contact information of the author(s).
