Preliminary Plans for Building Expansion Presented

On September 23, 2002 the preliminary plans for the expansion of Henderson Library were presented at the Board of Regents in Atlanta. The proposals were well received and planning will continue throughout the fall semester. We hope to receive construction funds during the upcoming legislative session (our expansion is first on the Board of Regents' list of capital projects), which would mean work would commence in late summer or early fall of 2003. Below is a rendering of the Library exterior when the project is completed.

Henderson Library Announces Workshop Schedule

The Library's schedule of free workshops for faculty and students has been set through October. Topics to be covered include the following:

DVD and VHS Video Projection Capability in Library Room 1040

If you are looking for a location where you can project VHS videocasettes or DVD disks on a large screen for your class, check out our Room 1040. This classroom can be arranged to seat up to 50. If you would like to reserve this room for a video showing, please call Peggy Miley at 681-5482 or email her at pmiley@georgiasouthern.edu.

Simplifying Borrowing from Other University System Libraries

Any Georgia Southern student, faculty, or staff member in good standing may now go to any University System of Georgia library and be eligible for checkout privileges. Borrowers must present a picture ID to the library they are visiting. It is no longer necessary to present an institutional ID, although that is preferred. All borrowers will have 28 days to use these materials and they can be renewed online. Users may return materials borrowed from a University System library to their home library or any other University System library. Patrons who use this new service will need to closely monitor the due dates of their materials, because although there will not be fines for overdues, if an item is allowed to become overdue by even a single day the patron will be blocked from any more borrowing from other libraries.

New Equipment and Software Available for Macintosh Users

The Microcomputer Applications Area (MAA) located on the first floor of Henderson Library has received a MAC color printer, two MAC scanners, and 20 copies of Dream Weaver/Fireworks software, which is used for creating web pages. These items were donated by the Art Department, which originally purchased the materials with student technology fee funds. Placing the items in the Library make them more accessible to all students. The cost for printing to the MAC color printer is $.20 per page which is the same cost for printing to the color PC printer. Assistance for these and other software applications and hardware is available Monday - Saturday 8am until midnight, and Sunday noon until midnight. If you have questions regarding services provided in the MAA, please contact Sonya Shepherd at 486-7820 or sgaither@georgiasouthern.edu.
