Phase two of construction (four story western addition and renovation of
old building) is estimated to be completed during the fall of 2008.
Library services and collections will be available in the new eastern addition.
Current
and recent bound periodicals and some books will be also housed on the second
and third floors. The reference collection and the Information Services Librarians
will be housed on the third floor.
The first floor will contain some non-computer seating, a multipurpose classroom,
and two computer classrooms with 30 computers each.
Less heavily used materials
will be housed in the automated retrieval collection during the two years
of phase two, and items will be delivered to users at the Circulation Desk
when requested.
Less used materials will be stored off
campus, and will require longer to retrieve than those on campus – perhaps
24 hours or more.
The number of seats available within the Library will be reduced but computers
and study areas will be available in other buildings on campus. Library electronic
resources will be available from any computer connected to the campus network.
For example, additional computer access will be provided in the College of
Information Technology.
The three story glass atrium will be available for scheduling campus events if
they do not interfere with the Library’s mission of ensuring a comfortable
and responsive study environment.
