FAQs About
Our Move
When will the expanded/renovated library be open
to the public?
The goal is to open at least part of the expanded/renovated building
on September 22. Please note that date is subject to construction delays
and other unforeseen factors.
How will hours and services be affected by the completion of
the building expansion/renovation project?
Regular hours and services are expected to be maintained throughout the
process. If that changes, every effort will be made to notify the campus
before changes are made.
When will the books and periodicals be moved?
Books and periodicals will be moved from the current building to the
expanded/renovated building between September 22 and the end of the term.
During the move, books may be requested at the circulation desk, just
as books in the ARC and off-campus storage are requested, until the moves
are complete.
When will library employees be moved?
Library employees will be moving during August and September.
When will the library’s computers be moved to the new addition?
Computers will be installed in the expanded/renovated building as soon
as possible after the supporting furniture is installed so that as many
as possible are available on September 22. The computers in the classrooms
on first floor will continue to be available to for use whenever the
Library is open until they are no longer needed to maintain computer
access.
Will remote access for the Library’s catalog and databases
be available during the moves?
Remote access will be available until the server is moved to its new
location. Every effort will be made to complete that move as early
in fall term as possible.
When will the current library building be closed?
Parts of the current building will be closed to the public in December,
but hours and services will be maintained with minor changes in service
desk locations. All materials will remain available to patrons
Where will I enter the new building?
Existing entrances will continue to be used, but everyone will have
to go to the second floor before entering the library service areas.
The emergency doors currently used for access to first floor will be
used as emergency exits only, but there will be two elevators and five
staircases that can be used to reach first floor.
Will parking be affected by the opening of the new addition?
The number of spaces available will not change.
How will I know where service desks, books, computers, etc.
are in the completed building?
Floor plans will be on the library’s web page. Copies will be available
at both entrances. Tours will be offered regularly for several weeks
after the expanded/renovated building opens. Library staff will be
happy to give directions.
