Exhibition: “Let’s JAM” in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM)

April was assigned as Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) in 2002 by the National Museum of American History. The primary reason was to acclaim, recognize, and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz.

Now in it’s 15th year, JAM is a month long festival of music to honor jazz as a unique, original American art form.

It is intended to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz: study the music, listen to jazz, read books about jazz, and listen to the music.

The exhibition seeks to represent the Zach S. Henderson Library’s participation in this national commemoration… so Let’s JAM.

Since this year’s event will coincide with the year-long 50th anniversary celebrations of the Nation Endowment for the Arts (October 2015-2016), the 2016 Jazz Masters Fellowship Awardees Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Gary Burton and Wendy Oxenhorn will be featured.
