Hot Doc: Happy 150th birthday GPO!

The Government Printing Office (GPO) provides Georgia Southern with government documents from all 3 branches of government, all agencies, and all departments through the Federal Depository Library Program. Today, GPO celebrates its 150th anniversary.

June 23, 2010 marks the 150th anniversary of the day that President James Buchanan signed into law the act that established the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). GPO is honoring this occasion with remarks by the Public Printer and the Archivist of the United States. Afterward, GPO will be unveiling a copy of the act signed by President Buchanan and other items to commemorate the anniversary.

Watch the 3-minute video on YouTube to learn more about the history of GPO.

This is the first of many events to celebrate GPO’s 150th anniversary. Please join us as we honor our past and embrace our future.

And while we’re celebrating birthdays, take a look at the newest display in the atrium commemorating the 4th of July.  Happy birthday, America!
