Technical Services Department at Lane Library

Technical Services is responsible for the acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of new materials in all formats – books, periodicals, electronic resources, CD’s, DVD’s and videos – in the Lane Library. The Department is also responsible for book repairs, binding (including theses & dissertations), and maintenance of the library catalog and holdings information.

Acquisitions are made for the library through two main methods: purchases (NEW PAGE CREATED) and gifts. – (NOTE: supposed to go directly to the #guidelines header on the linked page.) The acquisitions of materials is shaped by the Lane Library Collection Development Policy. – New page created The library works with academic departments, faculty and librarians to make purchases that support the academic mission of the University.

Technical services is responsible for providing catalog access to all library materials through the GIL Catalog. This includes creating a catalog record, classification and subject analysis of all materials. Catalog records are created using MARC standards and according to the Library of Congress classification system.

The Technical Services Department is located on the 2nd floor of the library and is closed to the public. Staff can be reached by phone at 912-344-3004 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
