The Henderson Library opened in 1975 after outgrowing the Rosenwald building. A $22.75 million expansion/renovation project began in summer 2004 and was completed in August 2008. This expansion added 101,000-square feet to the original building and included the first Automated Storage and Retrieval System in any library in the southeast.. More information on that project is available on our building and renovation page.
The Henderson Library upholds the intellectual freedom principles
as as stated by the Association of College and Research Libraries
(ACRL). Click

- The "answer" people.
This department is responsible for assisting with the use
of books and periodicals in print formats and with the
use of our computers and information resources in electronic
format. Assistance is available from the Learning Commons. (See
schedule.)
In addition to the service desks, the department offers workshops on
computer and library topics each semester for classes and
individuals, and writes guides to
library and computer use.

- The Special Collections Department manages the library's
collection of rare books, manuscripts, and other archival
materials. Rare books are books which are special to
Henderson Library for some reason; for example, books which
are autographed by the author or are written by GSU professors
would be placed in the rare book collection. Manuscripts
are the papers of individuals or organizations of importance
to the community; for example, the papers of local politicians
and records of local businesses make up quite a bit of the
Manuscripts Collection.

was Zach S. Henderson?

- This department maintains the Library's nearly 500 computers and
printers. The department also supports the Library's local area network, servers and the software for research and for the day to day operations like purchasing and circulating books and other materials.
